Letting light in

2013 -A human experience personified…that of “opening up” to let more light in. This painting of heavy ornate curtains being pinned back and the latch turned to fling the window open on a bright and sunny day can be taken at either the literal or the metaphorical level. There is a feeling of springtime arriving suggested by the fresh yellow-green exterior and dazzle. The light “coming in” has an ethereal quality that verges on blue-violet as it “meets” the solid edges of the subject. Inherently optimistic and with a spiritual undercurrent, this was one of a series of paintings involving windows that I carried out over a two year period.
